4/23/2012 UPDATE: I notice that the device offered on this page now appears to be different from the one I reviewed. My review is for the device offered by ACCDepot and I paid under $100. O.S. in description of the original said 4.0.3. As the description says, it has a black front and a white back. (Changed by 4/24 to black) The one on this page looks different and I've seen two different devices displayed today. Don't know what that's about but I have had experience with vendors listing devices in the same place that are not the same. Proceed with care and ask the vendor questions. BTW, I am still very much enjoying the tablet I reviewed. So far, so good!
I'll get right to why I think this is the best tablet available for under $100 and then I'll get into why I personally like it.
*It's hot off the press. One of the newest releases available. Soooo:
*It has the latest Android OS, 4.0.3 -- Ice Cream Sandwich. Most of the tablets available are 2.2 and 2.3 and there are a few 4.0. Sure, maybe the upgrade to the latest is free but who wants to be bothered. Plus everything is compatible with the OS.
*512 MB of DDR3 ram. Most have 256 of DDR2. That is not unlimited ram but if you watch how many apps you leave open, it works and it works well.
*Five-Point Capacitive Touch Screens are great: More responsive, faster, sturdier, less likely to scratch. I tried out a device with a resistive and was scared to take the protective cover off. Capacitive is nice with a stylus but fingers work.
*Works with all of the Amazon Apps I've tried so far. Wow! It makes a beautiful Kindle reader. It loaded in my Audible files without a hitch and plays them well.
*Designed to work great with Google Apps. One click and they are on the device in a few seconds.
*All of the standard stuff works great. Emails open in a flash. web pages load quickly.
*Camera is 1.3MP. There are quit a few that are .3, including one that claims to be 3MP. Has video capability.
*It has both mini and standard USB interfaces.(BEWARE!! SOME OF THESE DEVICES HAVE A 20 PIN INTERFACE THAT YOU HAVE TO USE A FAT ADAPTER WITH) I noticed that needs to be powered by usb only works with the mini. The standard usb....
*Allows you to access files directly from a usb device like a thumb nail drive or an external hard drive.
*Aside from working with the little keyboards that are built into the covers, it also works with my wireless keyboard and mouse from a single dongle.
*Has HDMI interface.
*Mine fit into a very inexpensive kindle 3 cover that I got at Ollies. As far as I can tell it fits most covers for Amazon Kindle Fire also but if you don't get the open ones you may cover up some ports you need to access.
*GREAT RESPONSE FROM SELLER, ACCDepot. I'm a picky customer that wants everything to be right. Every time I had a question I received a response within 24 hours and all of the questions were answered.
*It was shipped out the same day I ordered it and I got it within the stated two days. I was a little shocked that it was in a Priority Envelope! But it did the job because of the box and packing.
*Power is not too bad.
*Thin and light.
*It feels really good in the hand; sturdy. I like the black front, white back combination.
*Sure, there is no manual included. However, I found it perfectly intuitive. It's for playing with. Play with it and you'll know everything about it easily and quickly. I was not frustrated at any point and hey, I'm 52 years old.
*Great MP3 player and movie viewer because the screen is just so nice.
*I like the different security options. Neither the 22 or 14 year old have been able to figure out my security pattern to start a round of Angry Birds that always results in me having to resort to threats to get my device back.
*Mini SDHC card will get you up to 32GB plus the 2GB or so left over from the the 4GB of internal space. With an thumb nail drive or an external drive,well...
*Vendor states that there is a 30 day return and one year warranty. Who knows.
*Mine was in English.
The latest devices have specs like A10, NandFlash, Mali 400 GDU for graphics,G sensor support.
I've had this for a little less than a week. There are a lot of things that I haven't done with it yet. I will try to update a little later.
