This is a review on a Coby Kyros MID 1126-4G tablet. I bought this for my wife. She is not a very tech savvy person, I often have to help her when she does anything but basic operations on her laptop. But, she got a smartphone about 6 months ago and I've been impressed at how well she's mastered it. A while back I noticed that she's started using her smartphone instead of her computer as much as she can so I started looking at a tablet computer for her because they all seem to use a smartphone OS and so I assumed they operate similar. I haven't tried a tablet for her before because the price of the better models is to much to risk to see if she'd like a tablet. The resistive touch screens and poor reviews on the less expensive models have ruled them out also, until now. This tablet works great, does not feel cheap or fragile and most importantly, after 24 hrs she fell in love with it. It works so good and is so cool, I want one.
At first she wanted to get all the apps she has on her smartphone but some of them are not available through the Getjar app store. Some of the apps she has on her smartphone wouldn't really be useful on this tablet anyway because it only has wifi, no 3G or 4G or cellular connection of any kind. I know she quickly realized that this device is not a smartphone or laptop replacement. What it does is allow her to use the same smartphone apps she normally uses at home or when there is wifi available with the same touch screen interface as her smartphone but with a much larger viewing screen. So, if you notice that when you're at home you find yourself reclining in your favorite chair using your smartphone to post something on Facebook or checking the weather forecast or whatever, you'd probably really like one of these little tablets. And it's a lot cooler to see the pictures of our grandkids on the 10 in tablet screen than it is on the little smartphone screen.
Follow up to my original review:
Thought I'd do a follow up on my review because after using the tablet an issue came up. My wife had trouble surfing the web with the browser that came on the tablet. I installed Dolphin on it and it really made surfing easier for her. In the process of changing the browser I discovered that the apps are dependent on the browser for internet connection. When I switched to Dolphin it made the tablet operate generally much better. If I can ever afford to order one for me the first thing I'm going to do with the new one is download and install a new browser.
